Returning to WVCW for 4th Year of Christmas Parade Coverage

WVCW will broadcast live coverage of the 2010 Dominion Christmas Parade as it passes by the VCU campus tomorrow morning. The program, anchored by Michael Campbell and Kazie Turner, begins at 10:30 a.m. EST.

4 years ago, I began WVCW’s tradition of broadcasting this Richmond event. Tomorrow, Michael will interview me about the first two years of the station’s coverage during the show. The program will also feature interviews with Harlem Globetrotter Hi-Rise Brown, Amelia Stankovic from the Dominion Christmas Parade, and attendees from tonight’s Celebrate Illuminate Grand Illumination event.

You can hear it all LIVE by visiting wvcw.org during the parade, or stay tuned for a downloadable version.

WVCW: A New Year

With a new semester underway at VCU, I’m taking this opportunity to point out that I am no longer the news director at WVCW-Richmond. Any communications sent to me with regard to that position will be forwarded to Michael Campbell, general manager and interim news director.  He can be reached here.

It is my understanding that the station is up to some exciting things this year. I throughly enjoyed my time there and will post a look back in the near future.

Graduation

On Receiving the Broadcast Faculty Award (6/5):

It was a tremendous honor to receive the VCU Mass Communications Faculty Award for Broadcast Journalism at my graduation ceremony on May 22.  This recognition from the very professors who gave me the tools and support necessary to pursue this passion of mine means the world to me.  Thank you very much.

On Graduating (5/22):
Today I am receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University.  Since my freshmen year of high school, I’ve known that broadcast journalism was the field I wanted to pursue.

I’m not entirely sure what’s next for me, but that’s almost the exciting part.  At such a young age, I’ve been able to practice my craft in China, and to a lesser extent Europe.  I’ve seen my work published, broadcast, and nominated for national awards.  Believe me when I say I would have never expected this just a few years ago.

From WBN News to VCU InSight, and everywhere in-between, I’d like to thank everyone who’s been so supportive of me these past years.  That very support has been what’s given me the motivation and drive to keep going, when at times it seemed as if others expected me to fail.

Thank you,
Eric
