With a new semester underway at VCU, I'm taking this opportunity to point out that I am no longer the news director at WVCW-Richmond. Any communications sent to me with regard to that position will be forwarded to Michael Campbell, general manager and interim news director. He can be reached here.

It is my understanding that the station is up to some exciting things this year. I throughly enjoyed my time there and will post a look back in the near future.

Today I am receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University. Since my freshmen year of high school, I've known that broadcast journalism was the field I wanted to pursue.

I'm not entirely sure what's next for me, but that's almost the exciting part. At such a young age, I've been able to practice my craft in China, and to a lesser extent Europe. I've seen my work published, broadcast, and nominated for national awards. Believe me when I say I would have never expected this just a few years ago.

From WBN News to VCU InSight, and everywhere in-between, I'd like to thank everyone who's been so supportive of me these past years. That very support has been what's given me the motivation and drive to keep going, when at times it seemed as if others expected me to fail.

Thank you,
Eric

This final episode of VCU InSight will mark the end of my journalism training at Virginia Commonwealth University. At the conclusion of this semester, I will no longer be taking mass communications courses as I have now met those requirements to graduate in May 2010. My final news package, on the James Center Grand Illuminaion and Ukrops-Supervalu Richmond Christmas Parade, will be featured in this fall 2009 finale of VCU InSight.

Throughout January 2010, additional episodes of VCU InSight, featuring the work of VCU documentary students, will be broadcast. Iva Radman and I will return as anchors for one of these broadcasts. This semester, Radman and I have been instrumental in the development of a new VCU InSight trend -- the "live-tweet." I personally hope this trend will continue in the future with the program.

Natalie Allen and I recently completed a project for Marcus Messner's MASC 495 Senior Seminar course at VCU. The object was to pick a news organization and create a short film in the style of "Epic 2015" to predict it's future. We acknowledge ours is wildly imaginative, but in it, we present a possibility for NPR's future. Though, we honestly wish the best for this organization and only present this as one of an infinite number of possibilities for its future success or failure.

My second report for "MASC 465 -- Broadcasting" features interviews with VCU students regarding their opinions of preachers on the VCU campus. Many say they don't like them, despite it being their constitutional right to preach. Included is an interview with Dr. Reuben Rodriguez, Dean of Student Affairs at VCU to discuss VCU's position on the matter. Also: Dapo Kasali, who preaches on the VCU Monroe Park campus, shares his thoughts.

I recently sat down for an interview for "MASC 465 -- Broadcasting" to discuss the upcoming Richmond Folk Festival. I spoke with Stephen Lecky on "VCU InSight" to discuss the event's 2nd year in Richmond and what visitors can expect during the event, which takes place October 9 - 11, 2009.
